Hello everyone. After further email conversations with Equality Texas and our "official" Join the Impact/Austin contact person, Allyson, it's safe to say that Saturday's protest is definitely on and going strong . . . with all of the necessary red tape taken care of. Allyson has already been contacted by the local print media and the local TV stations have been notified, so we're definitely going to have some outlets for our voices to be heard. Derrick and I are incredibly excited about this event, and we invite everyone to come out and show their support. A few reminders:
- The protest is Saturday, November 15th @ 12:30 pm in front of
Austin City Hall. Click
here for parking information.
- We need to be as visible as possible. Be creative with signs, banners, t-shirts, etc. Click
here for some great sign ideas.
- This is a peaceful protest. We should be spreading a message of love more than anything else, because that's what this is ALL about.
- We need to represent the best of our community, so no vulgar or pornographic images on signs, t-shirts, etc. We've already heard from a number of people who will be bringing their children to the event, so be mindful of that. Please be courteous and respectful to everyone we encounter that day, and be sure we're not blocking sidewalks or any entrances to buildings.
- Please help spread the word regarding this event. You can find a ready-to-print flyer on the Join the Impact
homepage. Derrick was able to modify the official flyer to include information specific to the Austin protest. If you want a copy of that PDF file, leave your email and we will forward it on to you.
- If you have questions or suggestions regarding the event, please contact Allyson (information
here) or leave a comment for us, and we will get back to you!
Are we leaving anything out? Please leave a comment if so! We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Thank for specifying that it'll be peaceful with non-vulgar signs. I want to come and bring my three-year-old but obviously as a parent I need to put her safety first. I don't care about her seeing/hearing swearing but she doesn't need to see visuals about any kind of sex yet, kwim?
So we'll plan to be there. :)
