What a week! Probably 90 percent of our posts this week have had something to do with high school basketball star, turned beauty queen, turned member of the PTA, turned TV sports announcer, turned village mayor, turned Governor of reindeer, turned McCain's Vice Presidential pick, Sarah Palin. The once-obscure Governor of Alaska went from being a relative unknown to a so-called "Republican superstar" in such a short time, that not even McCain's closest advisors could have predicted what has turned out to be a circus by all accounts. So much so, that it's starting to seem that the VP candidate is becoming the Presidential candidate and a celebrity in her own right.
We here at Warren & Derrick have made no secret of who we're supporting in this election. We've also made no secret of our dislike for both Sen. John McCain, and more recently his Vice Presidential choice of Gov. Sarah Palin. While a large number of our posts this past week have centered around the rumors and the gossip, we do have real reason to fear a McCain/Palin Presidency that has nothing to do with Palin's personal life. And it seems that America agrees. News came late yesterday evening that the Obama campaign raised $8 million dollors in small donations between last Friday when McCain announced Palin, to yesterday. That alone speaks volumes.
Let's step away from the "Palin family drama" for a moment and look at Gov. Palin's politics. This alone is reason enough to not vote for her and McCain. Her speech on Wednesday was, without a doubt, very well delivered. However, anyone can read from a teleprompter and deliver lies written for you in advance by members of McCain's campaign. She spoke of her qualifications - which stretched the truth. She spoke of Obama's lack of experience and how he's failed to reach across the aisle - a complete lie. The Associated Press published an article Thursday referring to her "stretching of the truth". Find it HERE. We dislike her because of who she is - not because of her gender. Her experience, politics, beliefs and record of irresponsibility are scary and do not belong one heartbeat away from the White House. This is how we feel. This is our opinion. We invite you to draw your own conclusions, but before you do, please research for yourself, and go beyond your traditional familial ties and what you see at the convention and what you hear on Fox News -- and even "liberal blogs" such as ours.
We have 60 more days that will no doubt be exciting and eventful. Whether you agree or disagree with us, we invite you to share your thoughts by participating in the conversation. This, after all, is what makes our country fabulous.
