So we've never really done this before, but we have decided that we need to take a bigger stand against companies who bow so easily to homophobic public pressure. So what's the issue? Well, the following UK TV commercial for Heinz mayonnaise was yanked after a few people complained about the man-on-man kiss at the end:
Heinz's official response was that they pulled the ad as it was "not in accordance with company policy." The company's Director of Global Corporate Affairs,
Michael Mullen, had the following to say: "
Heinz pulled the ad in the UK because our consumer research showed that it failed in its attempt to be humorous and offended people on all sides. Heinz apologizes for its misplaced attempt at humor and we accept that this ad was not in accordance with our long-standing corporate policy of respecting everyone’s rights and values"
Mmmmm hmmmmm.
If Heinz reacts so quickly to a please a few narrow-minded bigots, then it's time for the greater community to let their voice be heard as well and let Heinz know that this kind of discriminatory knee-jerk reaction is completely unacceptable by making the decision to take part in a world-wide boycott of Heinz. Lest you think that all you would be giving up are Heinz condiments and vinegars, take a look at some of the several other well-known products that are part of the "
